Empowering Voices: Pic-A-Talk Kicks Off AAC Awareness Month with Inspiring TWINKLE Workshop at Indahag Elementary School
October is AAC Awareness Month!
October marks a special month dedicated to raising awareness around Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), and what better way to start than by hosting the TWINKLE event (Teaching Workshop for Innovative New AAC Knowledge and Language Education) at Indahag Elementary School on October 1, 2024. This event set the stage for a month focused on empowering individuals with complex communication needs by providing educators, parents, and community members with tools to enhance accessible communication.
The TWINKLE workshop featured valuable insights from Teacher Dit, a Registered Speech-Language Pathologist, who passionately shared her knowledge on integrating AAC in educational environments. Teacher Dit guided participants through practical strategies and the benefits of AAC, underlining how these tools can unlock potential and allow every student to actively engage and communicate, regardless of their abilities. Her dedication and hands-on experience provided attendees with actionable knowledge, fostering a supportive environment for children who rely on AAC for daily interaction.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Ms. Gillian Bollozos for her role in bringing this workshop to Indahag and to Principal Candolyn Quilit for welcoming Pic-A-Talk to host this inspiring event. Their enthusiasm and commitment were instrumental in making the TWINKLE workshop a success, reaching members of the school and surrounding community who were eager to expand their understanding of AAC.
To everyone who joined us, thank you for being part of this journey. We hope you found the session enriching and left with insights that will inspire continued advocacy and awareness around AAC. By embracing AAC, we’re not only expanding communication tools but also promoting inclusivity and understanding across classrooms and communities. Let’s work together this October and beyond to build a world where every voice has the opportunity to be heard and understood.
