Alexa, the inspiration for Alexa’s Haven, poses with her wonderful and supportive parents

April 5, 2024 — In a heartwarming collaboration for Autism Awareness Month, Pic-A-Talk was invited by Blizarre Bits, an accessory shop specializing in bracelets and trinkets, and MSU-IIT’s iDEYA, to participate in InclusiCare’s Exposure Day. This special event, hosted by the College of Economics, Business, and Accountancy (CEBA) of MSU-IIT, was dedicated to honoring and supporting the neurodiverse students of Alexa’s Haven, a private academy for children with special needs, on their very special day.

What constituted this special day for the students was a mini campus tour of the Griffin District in MSU-IIT. They observed and marveled at one of the most prestigious schools in the entire country: Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology. Along the way, they made many friends and forged friendships with the students from CEBA, who were more than eager to show them where they took their classes and spent the majority of their hours.

The tour ended at iDEYA, where Pic-A-Talk took center stage by introducing their Pic-A-Talk AAC app to the parents and stakeholders of Alexa’s Haven. This app, designed to give non-verbal children a voice and improve their communication, was met with surprise and happiness. Everyone was excited to discover that there’s now a local and affordable AAC solution for Filipino children.

Afterwards, Bizarre Bits invited Pic-A-Talk to their Students’ Awarding Day held at one of the CEBA classrooms. Delicious food and sweet desserts were served for lunch, tailored to give the students the best experience possible. Bracelets designed by the Alexa Haven students were on full display, the materials given to them by Bizarre Bits. Accordingly, the proceeds of the bracelets would be donated to the Autism Society in the Philippines.
